A few minutes before the wedding, I stood by the church entrance, my heart racing, holding a letter from my mother that I’d accidentally found in my jacket pocket.
The bride was already waiting for me in the church courtyard, adjusting her dress, and I, for my part, was struggling to control my nerves.
To distract myself, I reached into my pocket for a mint, as I always did to calm myself and organize my thoughts.
However, instead of the usual candy, I found an envelope. In it, written in delicate handwriting, I read: «To my dear son. Read this before you get married.»
A feeling of unease immediately washed over me. What if what I was about to read changed my mind? What if, upon opening that letter, everything I had planned fell apart?
The uncertainty paralyzed me for a moment, but something inside me compelled me to open the envelope.
With trembling hands, I broke the seal and unfolded the letter. My mother’s words touched my soul instantly:
«My dear son, today you are taking a very important step in your life.
You are creating a family, and if your heart is filled with love and trust, please remember these words that I offer you with all my love.
Love your wife with all your being, respect her, and cherish her at all times.
Remember that outward beauty is fleeting, but true beauty always comes from within.»
Support her even when she doesn’t ask for it, because women often hide their fears and worries.
Don’t let money become an obstacle between you. Wealth doesn’t define happiness; true well-being doesn’t depend on material things.
Avoid harsh words and hurtful comments. They can leave deep scars, difficult to heal.
And never, under any circumstances, seek comfort in the arms of another woman. That would be a betrayal. Only your wife should be the one who offers you comfort and who you always find by your side.
Value everything you have. A family founded on love and understanding is the greatest gift life can give you.

As I read those last words, I felt a lump form in my throat and tears well up in my eyes.
In that moment, I realized how fortunate I had been to have such wise and loving parents.
Today, on this day that not only marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life,
but also reminds me what it truly means to take on the responsibility of caring for and loving another person, I knew I was ready.
I was ready to love and protect my future wife, just as my mother had taught me.
With this letter in my hands, I felt not only more confident, but also more determined to honor the values and love they had instilled in me all these years.
