When you hear the word Siberia, what comes to mind? For some, it might conjure images of lush vegetation, forests, and abundant wildlife.
At the same time, I think most people picture freezing winters and a barren, snow-covered landscape. Temperatures in the region can plummet to -40 or -50 degrees Celsius in winter.
Of course, it’s obvious to all of us that you can’t leave a baby outside in such conditions. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened in this bizarre yet unbelievable story from the Altai region of Russia.
A mother had abandoned her two-year-old son, leaving him on the terrace in temperatures that had dropped to -20 degrees Celsius.
It was almost impossible for the baby to survive the night – but then a four-legged angel appeared and saved the day.
There was also a dog in the house where the child was abandoned. The dog immediately sensed the danger the little boy was in on the terrace.
What did the dog do? It simply lay down on top of the child.
The dog’s body heat and fur kept the baby warm and alive for three days.
Then the neighbors noticed the dog curled up on the terrace and went to check on him. When they discovered the child under the dog’s fur, they realized the gravity of the situation.
Despite the dog’s protection and heroic reaction, the child was suffering from severe hypothermia and was in critical condition.
Miraculously, the child survived and was rushed to the hospital, reports The Siberian Times. The Daily Mail also reported on the story.
Residents of the Loktevsky region described the dog as a «hero» and its reaction as that of an «angel.»
The mother, meanwhile, was arrested and faces a possible prison sentence, as well as the potential loss of custody of her child. She returned four days after neighbors found the baby, The Siberian Times reports.
If it hadn’t been for the incredible care shown by this dog, this story would have had a very different ending. But time and again, the loyalty of our four-legged friends is confirmed. They fight fire, ice, and water—to protect us. This dog is a true hero!
This isn’t the first time a dog has rescued a child against all odds in Siberia. A few years ago, 3-year-old Karina Chikitova got lost and disappeared without a trace with her dog from her home in a remote village in Sasha, one of the largest regions in Russia.
The little girl was missing for nine days, surviving by eating berries and sleeping on a bed of grass. Then her dog ran away and stumbled upon a nearby village. The clever dog led the way to volunteers, and they were finally able to find the 3-year-old. An incredible relief for her parents!
She had no injuries, just scratches on her feet.
The dog had protected the little girl during the nights and helped her feel safe – later, he would find her way back to others.
Both children are alive and well today – all thanks to their loyal canine friends. Dogs are truly amazing and heroic animals!
