Father Takes Daughter with Disabilities to Prom and Receives $10,000 Check Engraved “Father of the Year” – Today’s Story
Molly, a young woman with special needs who hadn’t found a date for prom, was surprised when her father walked her down the aisle that special night.
The recognition he received the next day, as a testament to his unconditional love for his daughter, changed their lives forever.
“Molly, look! Your dad’s here!” someone shouted at the funeral as 17-year-old Molly wept beside her mother Daisy’s casket.
Molly’s father, Danny, and her mother had separated ten years earlier. Since then, Molly had only heard bad things about him: that he was an “alcoholic” and the like.
Although Molly was never truly angry with him, she often longed for a closer relationship. However, after her mother’s funeral, her life was about to change drastically…
“Hi, honey!” Danny greeted his daughter, hugging her before placing a wreath on his ex-wife’s coffin.
“Is that your car? It’s blocking half the parking lot. Could you move it, please?” a guest asked as Danny, who worked as a truck driver, stood nearby.
“Yes, it’s my truck. Just a moment, please, I just ran into my daughter. I hope you understand. Thank you!” Danny replied with a smile.
Danny was happy to see Molly. The only thing that had connected them all those years were the alimony payments he sent her.
Daisy had forbidden any contact between them, fearing that her ex-husband might have a bad influence on Molly.
The funeral ended, and all the guests left. Danny gathered Molly’s belongings and told her he would take her home.
“A package? Who could have sent it?” Danny wondered when he found a box with a card that read: “For Father of the Year.”
“But… why, Dad? I can’t leave this house. Mom and I live here. It’s full of memories…” Molly said, sad and upset.
Danny insisted. He knew he couldn’t leave his daughter alone, especially since she sometimes needed a wheelchair when she wasn’t using crutches.
Molly had a serious problem with her leg that, since she was six, made it difficult for her to walk, causing her to limp.
Two days later, Molly moved in with her father. Although the house was small and somewhat messy, it gave her a sense of security and the certainty that she wouldn’t be alone.
Over time, Danny began to struggle to care for his daughter.
He hadn’t seen her grow up and didn’t know how to handle many everyday tasks, like brushing her hair.
He learned by watching online tutorials. But that wasn’t all.
He cleaned her room so Molly could sleep comfortably.
He bought her a comfortable bed so she could rest. Danny did everything he could to make his daughter feel at home.

Molly didn’t know where her father went at night after she fell asleep. She suspected that, just like her mother had told her, he often went to bars with his friends.
A few days later, Molly came home crying. She noticed the door was locked. She found a note behind a plant: “The key is under the pot. I’ll be back soon. See you later! – Dad.”
Molly frowned and thought about her father’s “strange” habits, which her mother always talked about.
She couldn’t help but think that her father had probably gone back to the bar, like he used to.
Several hours passed, but Danny didn’t return. Molly made pasta and left some for him. Then she lay down on her bed and continued crying into her pillow.
“If I were normal, I’d have a boyfriend. I wouldn’t be an outcast…” she thought.
Her teacher had told her that the prom was coming up. All her classmates already had dates, and she still didn’t have one. No one wanted to dance with her.
“Who’s going to dance with a girl who limps?” she thought.
Molly cried so loudly that Danny heard her as soon as he got home.
“What’s wrong, honey? Why are you crying?” he asked.
Molly told him about the prom. “I don’t have a date. I asked some boys if they would at least dance with me, but they turned me down and laughed at me.
I don’t want to go to the prom, Dad. I want to be alone! Goodnight.”
Molly turned over, pretending to sleep, while she continued crying into her pillow.
Danny couldn’t leave her like that.
The next day, he bought her a beautiful dress. And on the day of the dance, Molly received a big surprise: her dad accompanied her to the event.
When the students and their parents gathered in front of the hall, the distinctive sound of an engine could be heard.
Danny jumped out of the truck, placed Molly’s wheelchair on the grass, and helped her out. He pushed her across the red carpet as everyone watched in amazement.
Danny and Molly entered the hall. He lifted her and turned her around.
It turned out that Danny worked nights at a nursing home. In addition to his job as a truck driver, he had a second job to save money for his daughter’s surgery.
